Petrobras: Investing $224B through 2014
Brazil's state-run oil company says it will invest $224 billion through 2014 and double production by 2020.
About 95 percent of that will be invested in Brazil.

Massive offshore oil finds have been discovered near Brazil's coast and some forecast they could hold 100 billion barrels of oil.

Petroleo Brasileiro SA says it will spend $118.8 billion on production and exploration.

That is up 13 percent from the 2009-2013 plan.

Petrobras CEO Sergio Gabrielli says the company plans to double its production by 2020.

Petrobras produces 2.7 million barrels per day now. Gabrielli says that figure will jump to 5.4 million barrels per day.

From the NEWS desk of Tom Mongelli

Stacy Proebstle meets the military again, but this time she isn't leaping from a plane. She's on the Seaside boardwalk Monday for the NJ Army National Guard Fit Challenge. They'll be there most of the summer, testing people on two minutes of push-ups and sit-ups.

Also Monday, Lakewood shopowners, homeowners, police and township workers combine on a graffiti cleanup campaign. They've set up a phone number to report tags, and they're recruiting inmates from the Ocean County Jail to erase the marks. It's an ongoing drive to improve quality of life before it disintegrates.

Tuesday in Toms River, the Ocean County Democratic Party reorganizes at the Quality Inn. What's different this year is that there is a slate that wants to take over for the directors who have been in charge for the last five years. They say the party is on life support, and they want to revive it.

Wednesday, again in Toms River, Steve Lonegan and Americans for Prosperity call taxpayers to Saint Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church to view their Taxpayers' Budget proposal. He says there's still enough time for the Governor and Legislature to incorporate their ideas.

Also Wednesday, members of the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management visit WOBM to record a half-hour about hurricane preparedness. Meteorologists predict a busy season.

June 21, Fort Monmouth is abuzz. The annual JUICE inter-disciplinary emergency drill takes place - one of the few remaining 'til closure. They're also unearthing a time capsule that was planted there 50 years ago. In light of everything that's happened in the world since 1960, the contents should offer a fascinating perspective.

From the NEWS desk of Tom Mongelli:

Toms River Founders' Day, Saturday June 5th. This year's theme is the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's election. Township Historian Mark Mutter has lined up a Lincoln impersonator, and there will be civil war re-enactments. Plus...for the first time in eons...a beer tent!

.
Primary elections this Tuesday! Every Congressional seat is up for grabs, and there are low-profile competitions for Ocean County freeholder seats. As we speak, Stacy Proebstle is asking folks on the street if they plan to vote, if they know who's running, and if they even know there's an election.

.
On Wednesday's Open Forum, winners and losers will call in along with opinionated listeners who want to spout off about the primary results. Also on the agenda - the BPU's decision on another rate increase for United Water Toms River, and a grassroots reform movement in Ocean County's Democratic party. It all starts after the news at 6.

.
Then on Friday, United Water cuts the ribbon on its Berkeley Township processing substation. So people can see why they're paying more than ever.

.
Ocean County's northern recycling center in Lakewood brings in the media Wednesday to see how single-stream recycling works. All 33 communities are gradually converting. What it means for us is, simply, everything in one container - metal, plastic, paper, the whole shebang. New equipment at the plant sorts it all out.

.
Is there tritium in the drinking water around Oyster Creek? It's one of the questions being addressed Thursday during Exelon's public information session in the Education Center on the plant grounds.
