From the News Desk of Tom Mongelli:
FEMA officials continue assessing South Jersey shore front storm damage (What are they still looking for?!). They say no decisions about emergency funding happen until reports are analyzed and sent to the Governor. If it takes long enough, that could mean Christie (kidding, I hope).
.
Food drives. Clothing drives. Toy drives. Blood drives. Holiday time is especially critical this year while unemployment at the shore hovers just under 10 percent. Not trying to be a humbug, but charities and nonprofits are being forced to draw from a shrinking donor base.
.
Malpractice laws are driving up the cost of insurance beyond the means of doctors to pay, says Monmouth Assemblywoman Amy Handlin. She's promoting a bill to limit to rope in costs by limiting frivolous lawsuits in an attempt to stop the flow of physicians out of NJ.
.
Republican Ocean County State Senator Chris Connors is the object of whispers about a run against Democratic Congressman John Adler in 2010, but he's keeping mum. Toms River Councilman Maurice Hill wants a crack at it, and Burlington County has a lot of support for former NFLer Jon Runyan. We're looking into who else wants to step up to the plate.
.
Ocean County Freeholder Joe Vicari meets with Congressman Adler this week to straighten out a fiscal snafu. County officials thought they were getting $900K in Recovery Act money for alternative energy projects. Then, on the way to the bank, they found out that it went to Toms River. Whoops! Joe, put the solar tube back on the shelf for a minute.

“Which country was most to blame for the outbreak of World War I and why?”
1. The origins of The Great War, World War I, were in making for the duration of the nineteenth century. It was then that, “the system of nation-states that had emerged in Europe in the second half of the nineteenth century led not to cooperation but to competition.” This conflict came to a head with the assasustrian heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophia.
2. To repeat, important individuals of this pre-war time include the assassinated Franz Ferdinand and his wife, his assassin a member of Serbia’s Black Hand, a terrorist group. Important members of the time also include the leaders of the Allies and Central Powers to be.
3. The origins of World War I, and the war itself, not only affected Europe but the East as well. Russia had an alliance with France and supported Serbia, bringing them forth into any conflicts that lay in their land. Serbia and other lands in the Balkans also drew the Ottoman Empire into the conflicts for territorial reasons, this is demonstrated more so in the war itself.
4. While all nations involved in the beginnings of World War I had differing opinions on the multiple situations on hand, all followed a core set of viewpoints concerning war and politics. All nations had a high and rising sense of nationalism, due to this nationalism there was a very war-minded attitude amongst citizens and armies grew rapidly, many European nations had alliances with others leaving them in the midst of other nations business and conflict, and all it took was an already heated conflict between nations for one event (the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and his wife) to spark warfare.
5. The core origin of World War I, as mentioned multiple times in this paper, was Franz Ferdinand’s killing. To the Austria-Hungarian government this gave logical reason for war against Serbia, which they had already been scratching for. After the assassination Serbia offered Austria-Hungary anyone provably guilty in taking part in such conspiracy, yet till iven an Ultimatum that proved harsh, and therefore did not entirely comply. Rushing to Serbia’s defense was Russia, which spotted opportunity to dominate regions in the Balkans. The conflict on Austria-Hungary’s behalf must then be supplemented by their allies, Germany, and the Russians supplemented by their allies France.
6. In the beginning of chapter twenty-five the text makes an unfortunate statement concerning nationalism in pre-war Europe, “Governments that had exercised restraint in order to avoid war wound up being publically humiliated, whereas those that went to the brink of war to maintain their national interest had often been praised for having preserved national honor.” This quote greatly expresses what ultimately went wrong in Europe and eventually led to a global war, the nation-states maintained such a high level of nationalism that attempting to resolve their conflicts reasonably, at least to begin with, made them more or less a joke to their European society.

President Obama is apparently being thrown under the bus by his loyal, brave contingent of Secret Service Agents. It seems a pair of imposters (auditioning for a TV reality show) were permitted in to The White House to attend a Presidential State Dinner. Although the pair (husband and wife) cleared through metal detectors, they COULD'VE been carrying lethal weapons of mass destruction in powdered (or OTHER) form. Just shows that NOTHING changes! 144 years ago, a determined John Wilkes Booth GOT TO Abraham Lincoln, 46 years ago, a determined Lee Harvey Oswald GOT to John F. Kennedy. Last week, a determined married couple ALMOST got to Barack Obama! WHAT IF it was just a "dry run???"
