August 29, 2010

From the NEWS desk of Tom Mongelli:

Here is the short view from the newsroom as September arrives:
School starts in Wednesday 9/1 in Toms River. Schools all over the state get rolling between 9/1 and 9/7. Open Forum, WOBM-AM, Back To School Edition, tentative for 9/15, featuring a clash over the future of the Central Regional district.

September is Hunger Action Month. FoodBank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties is sending out a big SOS, as are support charities all over the state. With the unemployment rate still hovering just under 10 percent in NJ, the need hasn't abated. BTW - if you add in those who have run out of benefits and still aren't working, the figure is closer to 17 percent.
-

Jon Runyan drums up some Ocean County support for his Congressional run 9/5 at Veterans Park in Bayville. If you've got $2400 to spare, you can have your photo taken with Governor Chri-tie!

The Joint Base has become mighty public-friendly under the current regime. The Beast Of The East, a 10K mud run, is scheduled for 9/11, open to the public. Registration stays open 'til 9/3.
The irony of a festive occasion at a military base on 9/11 isn't lost on us. We'll be checking with folks in Middletown, Brick and other shore spots where WTC commuters never returned nine years ago, to see if the wounds are healing.

Bob thoroughly enjoyed this editorial (posted below) in the Asbury Park Press until he heard the backlash from his callers. One of his long time callers that doesn't call on a regular basis (a teacher for 47 years) said he called and cancelled his APP subscription because of the highly offensive editorial towards white people. Bob couldn't believe he was that offended by it.

Bob throws out the race card every Sunday in regards to our President being a black man but when white people are offended by a racist editorial, he finds it humorous.

Here is the editorial:

Beck's Rally not about Honor

August 27, 2010

It's hard to guess exactly what Glenn Beck is thinking today in the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial, on the anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King's historic "I Have A Dream" speech.

Is his "Restoration of Honor" rally a way to honor America's military, or is it rather, as Beck originally put it, a matter of "reclaiming the civil rights
movement" — which begs the question: From whom does he intend to take it back, and whom would he
like to see get it?

There is no shortage of angry, doughy, white guys in this country who feel shortchanged and cheated
and, rather than looking in the mirror, prefer to blame every failure and setback in their lives on those with more melanin than their own pasty selves.

Beck may be a fool — a man who believes that President Barack Obama has a deep-seated hatred of
white people, a man who, 30 years late, hears Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" and can't tell the difference between a patriotic protest song and anti-American propaganda, a man who never met a conspiracy theory he didn't like — but he's not stupid. He's got red meat to hand out to the crowds.

But most Americans know he's a clown. What Beck carries in his heart is no dream. It's a nightmare.

Funny, when Glenn Beck had a nothing little show on Headline News, he wasn't really controversial at all. He'd interview country and western stars, but that was about it. I'd run into people on the street and they'd tell me, "you really HAVE to watch Glenn Beck." I gave his show a shot, but I wasn't impressed. Then he got hired by Fox News, and he becaame a household name. Go figure, huh?
So, I began watching his Fox News show, and slowly but surely I became convinced that he was a nut!
An opportunist and a charlatan!!
Did I watch one second of his Washington, D.C. rally? NO!!! As a matter of fact I'm now having second thoughts about Sarah Palin
for riding HIS coattails! You know I've seen some cockamamie things in politics, but this so-called Tea Party Movement takes the cake!! The 2012 Republican Convention figures to be one for the books! CAN'T MISS TV!!!

I appealed to Millennium President/CEO, Bill Saurer, on August 5, 2010, to rid listeners of the scourge of Bob Levy. I was just handed a reply. First, the good news: Mr. Saurer RESPECTS my opinion. Now for the bad news: He doesn't agree with me. Well, I tried! I guess I gotta' take it up with Obama, now!!!

Speaking of Obama: Has anyone noticed from recent photographs of our Chief Executive, how he has aged so dramatically in just a year-and-a-half in The White House? His once jet-black hair is now being inundated with salt and pepper. We saw it, too, with George W. Bush and with Bill Clinton. Who WANTS to be President, and WHY? The job doesn't doesn't pay that well. Third-string infielders, on poor baseball teams, make more money than the President of the United States!! Okay, based on the absurd Glenn Beck rally, in Washington, D.C, last weekend, I am NOW prepared to say that IF the presidential election were held, tomorrow, I'd vote for Barack Obama. In seemingly embracing Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin has lost ALL respect in MY eyes.

Wow Bill, if that's all it takes to turn you to the dark side, you are truly a shallow person.
