ROBERT M. LATORREAGE: 79 WHITING. Robert M. LaTorre, 79, of Pine Ridge South, Whiting, Manchester, died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mills. Born in Newark, NJ he lived in Toms River for many years before moving to Whiting in 1996. Bob was the host of the Saturday morning radio show on WOBM AM for 3 years. He was involved in many organizations such as the United Way of Ocean County; and the Toms River Chamber of Commerce, and was a board member of the Ocean County Vocational Technical School. Bob also served as Director of Public Relations for Seaside Heights, NJ and was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. Bob was predeceased by his son Thomas in 1996. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Edith; his daughter Kim and John Mooney of Whiting; 2 sons Michael and Alisa of Toms River; and Marc and Donna of Virginia; his sister Gloria Tait of Florida; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering on Wed. November 3, 2010 from 6-8pm at the Manchester Memorial Funeral Home 28 Schoolhouse Rd. Whiting. A Memorial Service will be held at 8pm on Wed. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks 1060 State Road 2nd Floor Princeton, NJ 08540. Joe, from Toms River, thanks for a GREAT laugh on "Topic 'A,'" today. I was just making the turn off of County Road 571 (Manchester Township), onto Commonwealth Boulevard, in front of the Country Farms convenience store, when you congratulated Bob on getting his name on the WOBM building(The Bob Levy Broadcast Center). In a truly snarky, sarcastic vein, you asked Bob IF he ever got into a scandalous situation, did he think management would ever remove it?
Immediately, I knew you were making an analogy to the Ritacco Center, I only wonder HOW many, out there, caught it, too? I know it went right over Bob's head, but then, MOST THINGS DO!!!
My sincere condolences to the family of Bob LaTorre. For many years, Mr. LaTorre hosted a daily (Monday thru Friday) thirty minute call-in talk show on the Channel 8channel, the Adelphia Cable TV channel (now Comcast). Bob Levy and Bob LaTorre were EXTREME counterparts: "Topic 'A'" was VERY Liberal, and Mr. LaTorre's show ("In-Sight") was VERY conservative. I don't mean this to be derogatory or disrespectful, but I considered "In-Sight" to be the funniest show on television, without a laughtrack. Once, Mr. LaTorre (who was kind of short and heavy-set) crashed thru the director's chair he always sat in, and disappeared from view on live TV.
I ROARED WITH LAUGHTER!!! Stuff like THAT was ALWAYS happening on "In-Sight." Bob, I was laughing, but I was laughing WITH you!!! R.I.P.
Bill - in all fairness, I do think Bob knew that I was making a reference to Ritacco.
Also, gotta give Bob props for sticking up for me when some guy called in taking exception to my description of Snooki as a "depraved pig". The guy was somehow trying to compare what I said to what Nazis called Jews! Some lightweight who thinks that my calling a spade a spade is worse than the actual actions of the person who deserves the harsh label of "depraved pig".
